anyone on antidepressants?

I am 14 years old and my doctor wants to put me in antidepressants due to my depression and anxiety. Is there anyone that is on antidepressants or beginning them? Any tips, side effects, changes?

I'm 16 and have been on Zoloft since I was 12. Let me tell you this has helped me tremendously. I had no side effects or problems what so ever. I still get down sometimes but never how it used to be. Just remember to take it every day because if you forget it for a couple days, you can feel the depression and anxiety start to kick in. It's not to bad though. I am so happy I got put on it.

I went on antidepressants when I was 15. Honestly, they helped me a lot, but I also went to therapy 1-2 times a week. I did gain a LOT of weight very rapidly though. However, a lot of people don't gain any. I would recommend trying therapy on its own first. I know a lot of people are against medicating, but I believe there are cases and situations where it is beneficial.

Medication effects everyone differently. I started on antidepressants at 15 or 16. I never had horrendous side effects, but I know of a lot of people who have. In total I think I tried out 6 different combinations of various medications until I found one that worked. The medications that didn't work either made me lose my appetite completely, sleep all day, feel unbearably restless, and a lil aggressive. I know a lot of people get weird dreams or even nightmares from various medications. You should definitely get a therapist to help you navigate your depression and anxiety, as well as help you with your medication (as in, keeping track of any side effects and how your mood is effected).

If you're under 18 there's a greater risk of them increasing your suicidal thoughts. I'm on them myself, and I recommend trying other methods (counselling, etc) before going to medication that could make it worse
