Chocking on food

My son is 8 months old, has been eating solids for 4 months and had choked on his food at least once 5 times since then. Twice his face went purple. Today he choked on his oatmeal and puréed fruit which he has every morning. I've never been so terrified in my life.. any other moms go through this? He's never choked when his dad feeds him. I feel terrible because my so heard me screaming his name this am to help me  .. absolutely terrifying. 🙁
