dad, daughter, and crazy ex

So I've been talking to this guy for a while now and everything is going great. He wants things to get serious, but he says we can't get serious because his ex baby mama is crazy. Admiditly he's a little older than I am, but he makes me happy and I'm worried about what will happen if his ex finds out. He says that since he has a kid he has to do what's best for her, and I completely respect that. I love kids but I'm so awkward around them.. I've never been with someone with a kid and it's kinda making me nervous but I'm super excited. What should I do?
