Carbohydrates?

Question

I failed 1 hour glucose test so doing 3 hours and nurse told me less carbohydrates. What types of foood included into carbohydrates?

All the good stuff! Lol. Think sugars. Carbs are in most of our foods, from fruits to bread to junk food and pasta(and many many more) They are what gives us energy but if we eat to many they can cause an elevation in blood sugar and if they are not used for energy expenditure they can be stored as fat. You'll need to ask you doc for a list of foods to eat or avoid and maybe talk with a nutritionist if possible. You can also go online and find some good articles on safe, low carb foods during pregnancy. Cut back on fast foods, pizza, pasta and junk foods in general because these tend to be loaded with carbs. If a doc ever tells you something during an appointment that you don't quite understand don't leave that appointment until you do understand what they are talking about or you have a plan to get in touch with someone who can teach you more.

On the back of any food box it tells you the carbs. I have been insulin resistant for years and follow a low carb diet. My dietician doesn't have me regulating my fruit intake or my drinks but those have carbs in them as well but most fruit has sugar that is broken down differently. A typical plate for me is a fist of carbs, a first of protein, and half a plate of veggies. If I'm still hungry, veggies are what I go for. I try to get three veggie helpings, two fresh fruit, and then snack on trail mix that has almonds, dark chocolate, etc. I have a serious meet aversion at 27 weeks pregnant so I've been trying to add in some Greek yogurt. Hidden Valley makes a dip packet you add to Greek Yogurt that I love to dip veggies and cheese in. I try to keep away from processed foods. I'm not supposed to go more than two hours at a time without a small snack. I'm hypoglycemic and if I eat a high carb meal it causes my insulin to go crazy and my sugar actually drops really low. I have to maintain a balance.

There are carbs in literally everything. You'll have to start reading nutrition labels. I would suggest talking with a nutritionist. If you have lots of protein with the carbs that helps level out the sugars.
