UTI prevention/care meds caused false positive UTI test!

Lizzy

I contracted a minor UTI three weeks ago. I tried to beat it on my own because I can't afford a doctor visit and have yet to visit an OB/GYN. I was taking probiotics, cranberry pills, Vitamin C, and 5 days of Azo UTI symptom relief.

Week 1: Symptoms were never major, just some burning urination and the need to pee every 20 minutes

Week 2: Occasional faint burning, sometimes the need to pee (and if I waited too long at work, it would become uncomfortable/a little painful)

Week 3: NOTHING. Nothing at all.

But my tests continually showed positive on the LEU test (never showed positive for Nitrites)

After a good $40 spent on tests, I decided to read the entire pamphlet of info. It listed that azo dyes can create false positives. I was astonished. I checked my pill ingredients and stopped taking them immediately and within 24 hours, MY FIRST CLEAN TEST! It was 100% negative!

I am shocked. The pills I took to try to beat it were the pills that made me believe I wasn't able to. I have been in a panic for 3 weeks trying to find the money for a doctor's visit and a prescription. Turns out, my body conquered it on its own. I am proud and excited (and kind of mad).

So hopefully others can learn from this. Basically, read all the info. It saves you time and money.

(And now I can finally have caffeine, alcohol and SEX. It's been too, too long)
