Sleep Issues

Heather
This has our sleep history but you can skip to the last paragraph if you don't want to read it all 😄 My girl is 5 months. Sleep has never been consistent. After settling in after birth at home she started sleeping (in a bassinet) between 3-5 hours before waking to eat and then she would sleep 2 hours, eat and 2 more hours before being up for the day. Naps are touch and go, sometimes only short 15 min naps and she will wake if put down for naps. I've always held her during naps because it's easier to hold her while sleeping than to fight an over-tired baby.
Around 3.5 months she started waking every 2 hours, so I started putting her in bed with me for the last few hours so I could sleep a little more. About a month later she really started struggling and woke every hour for about 2 weeks. We still coslept the last few hours. She eventually started sleeping a little longer but that was short lived and she didn't want to be put down and would wake frequently.
I thought maybe she was too big for the bassinet now. So we moved her to her crib where she slept amazing a couple of nights (4 hours) and then out of nowhere the past 5 days she has refused to be put down. She will fall asleep in my arms and will be instantly awake and crying if I try to put her down, no matter how long I wait or how many times I try. She sleeps fine if we cosleep though because she can nurse whenever. I'm struggling with this. I like having her in our bed for a couple of hours, but the past several nights has been all night. I want her to sleep on her own some. I can't let her scream and cry though. I don't believe in the cry it out method at such a young age. Does anyone have any helpful hints for keeping her asleep while laying her down?Â
