First ultrasound

Is it normal to have to wait until 8w for ultrasound? I see others have had ones sooner. My husband will be gone for a month and I want to get in 1 week sooner (7w) but I don't think they will see me that soon. Has anyone experienced this - OB not wanting to see you before 8w?
