Online relationships (never met before)

I'm 15 and I have been with my boyfriend for 16 months now. Whenever I talk to people about how it's long distance they say he could be 40 or an online predator. I know he isn't because I use skype and we send letters and packages back and forth. I just hate hearing people say that and I'm wondering if everyone feels that way.
