What birth control pills are you on?

Question

Share your pill experiences with me, please? Do you prefer estrogen or progestin or combo? Do you have periods, or no? How are they?  nd any suggestions, tell me what pills work for you? I'm 19, and I have an appointment for birth control in 2 weeks. I get that there's no perfect pill out there, but I want a pill that will atleast meet 2 of my ideal criteria.

I'm looking for a pill that:
Won't kill my sex drive
Won't increase my appetite
Won't make me gain weight
Won't make my mood sings worse
Will help with period cramps, and make them lighter.
Won't make me have acne

I'm on my fourth pack of Sprintec and it's been great so far! My main reason for taking it is to manage my hormonal cysts on my cheek and jaw that got really painful around my period, and it's cleared that up well in conjunction with a prescription lotion from Curology.

I haven't really gained any weight, and what I did gain is probably from stress and water retention. I think my sex drive is higher but I'm not sexually active so I can't act on my desires lol.

However, the only bad thing was the first month and a half or so. I was spotting constantly and my period came twice the first month. I also had no desire to do anything besides sleep and eat and had like no energy or tolerance for other people's bs. That all went away by the end of the second pack though and it's been smooth sailing since then. Good luck! 🍀 💕

I've been on minastrin 24 for about a year now and for me there hasn't been anything negative (thank goodness!). It's a combination pill. I still have my period but it cut it in half because my period used to last for a whole week and now it's only about 4 days. I don't think my cramps have worsened or gotten better. It cleared my acne up a bunch. I haven't noticed any changes in my sex drive, mood or weight. That's my experience, everyone reacts to the pill differently so if one gives you a lot of negative side effects you can always switch to another. Hope this helps! :)

Used to be on combo til I found out the migraines I get where I lose my vision puts me at an increased risk for a stroke, higher so when I take estrogen so they switched me to a mini pill. If I could I would still be on the combo pill, more predictable periods.

I've been on mirabelas24 Fe since April. Before that I was on minastrin 24, lo lo estrin, and lo estrin. None of them made me gain weight because the pill doesn't make you gain weight contrary to popular belief. I'd say I have a pretty normal/healthy sex drive. My periods are a lot lighter than when I wasn't on birth control and I don't get cramps anymore.

I'm on Tri-Estarylla, I've been on it for a year now, and I have mixed feelings about it. I initially got on birth control for an acne cure, and of course to prevent pregnancy. This is the second pill I've tried, and don't have a sex drive at all. I get pretty bad PMS 11 days before my period. Also my acne still flares up pretty moderately. It's not as bad as before I got on the pill, but it's far from good. I've been afraid to switch to a new pill knowing there's a chance it could be even worse than this one.

Another vote for Rigevidon which is combined pill. I was on it for 5 years before my husband and I decided to try for a baby. No side effects or weight gain at all. Sex drive unaffected. You take 21 pills then have 7 days gap before starting the next month. I used to have a withdrawal bleed starting on the 4th day of the pill free week, lasting 5 days. It was like clockwork which was really useful for planning. I also found it useful that you can take two months of the pill in succession without a gap if you want to avoid having a withdrawal bleed for a holiday or something.

Honestly, that is something you should consult with your doctor. Every person has different reactions to birth control. Ask your doctor what would be better for you. He/she will probably want to run some tests to check your levels to see what would fit you best.
