Should quiverfull movements and similar be brought to light?
As a disclaimer, yes I am biased, but there are also legitimate reasons for this to be harmful. It's not just "I feel this way", it's "this actually hurts people". Similar to spanking it isn't just "I think it's wrong", it's "this practice is shown to do harm".
If you are not familiar with the "movement" it was established as a sort of anti feminist movement. Those belonging to the group take the Bible incredibly literally. Women are solely to remain in the home, must be subservient to the man (no this doesn't mean equal), no pants for women, no kissing or non chaperoned dates, when you court it's to be married where the girl is handed from father's control to the new husband's, the children are homeschooled as the outside world is bad, a victim of rape and molestation must repent for being tempting etc, and no birth control. The name itself originates from a portion of the Bible stating that children are like the arrows of a man's quiver, and it is believed that you should have many to form "god's army".
On from that, should something like this have awareness raised about it and the damage caused by it, or should it be ignored so as not to draw attention to it?
I don't quite know where I stand as on one (I do lean more this way) hand I do want it known that this is a damaging movement, and that the founders and instructors involved have multiple descrepencies under their belts, and that this incredibly conservative practice is harmful, but on the other hand I have to wonder if revealing more about it would simply draw more to it who otherwise would not have gotten involved.
For discussion, if you are religious how do you feel about this? Same for those that aren't. Would you ever participate? Marry into or support this? Why or why not.
