Not getting my birthday wish

Shannon

My little guy was born via emergency c-section at 33 weeks 4 days two weeks ago. He has been a total little rockstar and is now off oxygen and eating 20mL of his 50mL feedings via bottle every 3 hours. He has been doing so so so good but his doctor told me they still might want him to stay a few more weeks to get more confident feeding off the bottle/breast. I know he is in the best place for him but I was really hoping to have him home at 36 weeks (my birthday).

I know I'm being stupid but I just want to get some good time in with him before I have to go back to work. :(

just an idea... could you go back to work now while baby is in the NICU and then finish your maternity leave once the baby comes home? when i did clinicals in the NICU the nurse told me that some times mom's do this if they have recovered and if their work agrees.

I did a it if that. Agreed to work half my weekly hours from home for about 5-6 weeks after the birth, then kicked off my mat leave.

My son was born 11 weeks early and spent almost 2 months in the NICU two weeks after giving birth I was back to work. On mothers day he came home. The day he came home I worked an over night shift and got off at 7 am got to the hospital at 9 am to pick him up.

Hang in there! My son was born at 30w, 6 days before my birthday. It's so hard being away and hoping they'll be out soon and never knowing for sure when it'll be. Make sure to connect with other nicu parents and nurses for support 💜gang in there, it does get better!!
