Can't Get Medicaid Because I Have Insurance?

I told my mom I was keeping the baby but she told me I couldn't get Medicaid because I have insurance.. so it would cost a lot for a doctor visit. I know to get a job and all and to take responsibility. But I mean what do I do about the Medicaid?

Every insurance is different but you can still have Medicaid even if you have another insurance. The only problem is everything would be billed to your primary insurance and the last one to cover would be Medicaid. You would have to still pay for deductibles in your primary insurance..

My cousin has insurance through her job and she wanted to know if she was eligible for Medicaid. She called to make sure and they told her if you are already insured then you are ineligible for Medicaid no matter your income, etc.

It would depend on your states Medicaid laws. I live in Louisiana and people are eligible for a Medicaid even if they have private insurance.

Most insurance companies cover pregnancy care so why is it supposed to be so expensive. I don't know why she's telling you that. I pay $35 per visit. My pregnancy is covered and they even have a special program that adds extra help and coverage. You need to call your current insurance plan and ask what the doctor office visits will cost and make sure which ever doctor you pick is in-network. I'm sure they have more accurate info to give. You shouldn't need Medicaid.
