Can doctors guess when you'll have your baby?

Question

I went for my 38 week appointment today and after my exam the doctor said I'll most likely have my baby next week. She said it so confidently. Have any of your doctors said something like this after an exam? How accurate do you think she could be?

No. They certainly try, but they have no idea. Even due dates can be off by weeks.

Depending on how dilated and effaced you are, they can make a pretty good guess, though really they can't know for sure. 
I went in for a false alarm on a Friday night at 37 weeks 6 days, and I was 4 cm dilated. The doctor who saw me at the ER that night said she thought I would have the baby that weekend. Less than 12 hours later we went to the hospital for the real thing! My daughter was born at 38 weeks. We called that Friday night our practice run.

Our doctor says he can tell us roughly based on the dilation of the cervix. I believe him.

With my daughter my doctor said I was dialated 3 cm and he wouldn't be surprised if I had her by Monday. Well I had my princess that Monday. Lol and that was on a Friday

🤔 with my daughter I was 36 weeks & the doctor checked me & send me straight to the hospital I was 4 cm & 60% effeced she said i will see you after baby is born 😂 the next week I was back with no baby & at 40 w scheduled the induction for almost 42 w seriously i think that girl was too comfy there

They kind of get a sense for these things with experience. With my 2nd I went in for my 39 week checkup and the midwife told me I looked tired and to take a nap and prescribed me something so I could ignore the nightly BH and sleep, she didn't want me exhausted if I went into labor that night and she told me she went on call at 6 and might see me later. Lo and behold labor started at 1230am and I saw her when we got to the hospital at 3am just in time for kiddo to be born. 🤷‍♀️
