won't let me spend money on him?

So the other day my boyfriend lost it saying he doesn't EVER Want me to buy anything for him. At all. That includes bday and Christmas presents and stuff. I don't get it? He said he will be furious if I do and he's 'begging' me never to buy him anything. Is it just me or is that really weird? 
It makes me happy when I can buy him something he might like. I'm not saying I'm going to spend hundreds of dollars on him but why is he over reacting so much??? 😩😩

Maybe he won't feel manly enough. Maybe he thinks it's the opposite that men should by women stuff

I have a friend like this, she even gets uncomfortable when I buy her kids stuff. But she grew up poor and would rather people put their money in a savings account or 401k then spend it lol... maybe it has to do with his upbringing?

I would make him something instead. A picture collage, a bracelet, a necklace, a scarf, etc. Or buy some sexy lingerie. It's win-win as you get something and so does he!

My husband was kinda like that he didn't tell me he'd get furious that's a bit extreme but he wouldn't let me pay or if I bought something for him he would say why you do that but now we're married and we share money I'm sure with time he'll come around..

That's just how some people are. My boyfriend hates when i buy him anything for gifts, even though he buys me stuff. He just hates having money spent on him. Like, for his birthday I got him this punching dummy he's been wanting for a long time. I set it up at home while he was at work and when he got home he wasn't very happy lol. He liked the gift, but was mad that I spent so much on him. He doesn't ever want any gifts. He hardly even wants me to buy him food. He always tries to pay me back for anything I buy him. 
But, I'm a lot more stubborn than he is so most the time he just lets it go. I still don't know why he hates having money spent on him. But I think he's starting to get used to the fact that no matter what he says I'm gonna buy him something if I want to. Of course, that won't work for everyone.
