c section?? how does it work?

When does your doctor tell you if your going to have a csection? I know a lot of women it's their first baby and their doctor lets them know very early they will be having one! But how do they know this so early on? When? What makes them determine if you will have one

Usually with your first child you do not get a scheduled c-section. Now if you have placenta previa or something like that where they already know you won't be able to vaginally deliver. But I didn't know I was going to have a c-section after I was in labor for a long time and had a lot of complications and had to have an emergency c-section. A lot of first time Moms that have c-sections are emergency c-sections so we didn't know till it was about to happen.

With a first pregnancy you will do natural unless risks are identified. I was emergency c section with my first, 2nd elective c section but was only decided at my last check up with doctors as she was breech, 3rd they won't let me even try natural so I'll be in a week before due date to have my little one.

I'm a first time mom and knew at 12 weeks we would have to have a scheduled c section. Various reasons determine this.

I had a scheduled c section with my first, but I did not know until approx. 34 weeks when he was breech.  Even then I did not know for sure, as there are a bunch of things you can do to try to get them to flip, which o tried them all.  It became pretty clear at 37 weeks when he was measuring large and had shown no signs of moving so at that point I was scheduled at 39 weeks.  Not gonna lie it was sooo easy and I felt like I cheated the system and got out of having to give birth! The scar is soo small and healed quickly and I was able to walk a mile within about 8 days.  Currently pregnant with #2 and I can elect to have one which I would love to do, but we are unsure if we want 3 or 4 kids and 4 c sections are highly unrecommended so for that reason I may try a vbac.

There's a few factors: is baby breech?  Does mom have a condition that would make labor and natural birth dangerous (bad back, etc)?  As far as I know though, most cesarean aren't necessarily planned for a first baby. It's more typical to plan one after you've already had one, depending on how open the doctor and hospital are to VBAC, what cut they did the first time, etc.
