boyfriend called me fat

So me and my boyfriend of 3 years got into a very bad argument and he kept calling me a "fat ass" and just making lots of mean comments along that line. Well he has calmed down and is trying to talk to me again and I made a sarcastic remark to him "I only gain weight remember" and he said I mean every time I talk to you about it you get mad... I got pissed off and asked what that is supposed to mean and he says "you have the potentional to be exactly what I want but" and then I hung up. These were our messages... how would you feel? Am I over exaggerating?
