TTC after nexplanon, miscarriage?

Hey ladies! 
My husband and I decide to start trying for our first little one recently. I got my nexplanon taken out a couple weeks ago and my doctor told me to wait to have my first period before we start trying because it will help prevent a miscarriage. Has anyone else heard of this? 
My period was suppose to start last week but seems to be delayed due to the birth control removal. 
We plan on waiting but I know some women wait a long time for their first period after birth control. Just looking for a little perspective as to what to expect.

Ugh fuck you nexplanon.. I'm sorry for the cursing but i hate the nexplanon.. As soon as i seen your topic immediately clicked.. I was on nexplanon from april 2015 to april 2016.. Ive been trying since the day i removed it and still nothing.. I'm thinking it messed me up cause i had no problems conceiving my other kids.. Me & SO both where confirmed with no issues.. I'm ovulating every month with regular periods every 27 to 29 days with periods lasting about 4 to 6 days long each month.. 2 days after i took it out my period started back.. For the forst few months they where a little irregular now there on time.. Hopefully she doesnt come this month though
