Ring question?

Can I get a ring custom made from another ring? My grandmother gave me her ring and I love the idea of always having a piece of her with me but her ring is gigantic and the style is very dated and bulky do you guys think it is possible for a jeweller to turn this into a different ring? Right now my engagement ring is a ring we bought from a gift shop on the night we decided to get engaged.
