Cry it out - does it work?

I guess it depends. At what age and how is it done? I don't think it's healthy to put an infant in a room and let them cry until they fall asleep. Crying is physically exhausting. Of course they will eventually fall asleep, but that doesn't mean it's good for the child.

It worked for all my kids, but there's a whole method behind it ...not just tossing the kid in there n letting em cry lol

It depends on what you mean by work... will baby give up and go to sleep, probably eventually... is it okay to do? No. Will it damage baby? Most likely. I guess we all have to decide what's more important... our sleep in the short term or a healthy and happy human being.

It only works because your baby learns that you are not coming back for them. It's traumatic and unneeded. Be a damn parent for God's sake. Lazy parents are the absolute worst ✌

That is so mean to do to a baby! They are supposed to cry and be taken care of not cry and just be left there. I hate when people do that, there's so many studies showing it's not as effective as people think and it's super mean to do.

It's not a perfect for all children, no.

Some kids wind down with crying and then fall asleep. Some kids wind up. If your child is the later, than no.

If you decide to use a crying method such as Ferber, please read his book. It's a lot more than just putting baby in a dark room and letting them cry. Every baby is ready at a different point.

In the end we chose the no cry sleep solution. I'm also a Mom of 3 and I understand more than ever that sleep is a milestone just like any other and they all get there with help and encouragement from us. CIO may get them there faster, but that doesn't necessarily mean better. Some children have physical needs that make them not sleep through the night and have trouble going to bed. Other children have emotional needs. Since when are emotional needs less important than the physical ones? My second born was a stage 5 clinger and it took him a lot longer than I would have wanted, but he got there. They all do.

I believe wholeheartedly that babies who get what they need will be more independent and secure children. I have 3 boys who are proof of this.

You are the Mom. You decide what to do. But no, it's not a cure all for all kids because all kids are different.

To an extent. I have friends that it worked for but then were right back to square one a few months later. I did a modified CIO. We never really let our daughter full-blown cry but instead just let her whine a little. When it came to her actually crying we offered her affection or patted her. I know that doesn't work for all but it worked for us. Plus I can't stand hearing my baby cry.

Was the only thing that worked for my daughter   I couldn't be in the room at all or she wouldn't go to sleep   Only took three nights   First time she cried for 10/15 minutes, second night was 5/10 and third night about 2 minutes. Now she might cry once or twice but most nights she just goes to sleep.

If you mean using a timed method, then yes. I think a lot of people hear CIO and immediately think of babies being left in rooms to cry alone until they throw up or pass out. That is def not helpful and doesn't teach anything.

I did it with my 14 month old. I felt like a terrible mother. It took me a full week. 4 days of me lying in my bed beside her cot. It went fr 20minites of crying to instantly falling asleep. Then when after the 5th night I left the room. We had one night of her crying for 5minutes and on the 7th night she lay down and just played for a few minutes before going asleep. I had to redo it for one night last week after she had a dose. I wish I could find another way because I feel so bad when she cries and I can't cuddle her. But it was getting later and later her going asleep.
