Copper or hormonal?

Hello everyone! So I'm considering getting an IUD. I'm not sure if I want a copper or a hormone IUD. Pros/cons? Tips/suggestions? Thanks

I had a copper IUD for 2-3years. I had no side effects from it other than heavy periods, which they say typically subside after a few months. There should be no risk of weight gain from it since there is no hormones, the hormones are what make people gain weight. You always risk a possibility of any IUD going through your uterine wall. Most doctors will say the long term risks of any IUD on the market now are very low. I was happy with the copper IUD and even happier that it had no hormones, so no worries about blood clots, no worries about extreme mood swings *nothing out of the ordinary anyway*, no worries about becoming pregnant when not wanted. I suggest talking to your doctor about what the best option for you is though.

Ive had the depo for a few years , I hate it - gained too much weight and way too hormonal . I tried Merena , got BV . Didn't like it . I'm about to get the copper iud . And try no hormones I'm excited about it ! I'll see how it goes ! No more acne !!

My doctor aggressively persuaded me against the copper IUD. Yes it doesn't have hormones but it's notorious for breaking you out, weight gain, and horrible periods. Its really used as a last resort since it's non hormonal.
