How do I introduce finger foods??

So my LO will be 9 months on the 25th and I haven't introduced finger foods or anything like that yet. I want to, but I'm scared to death she is going to choke or something. She eats purees and formula right now. Anyone have advice on how to start introducing finger foods?

We did puffs first because they dissolve so fast, after two weeks he was gumming then so well (no teeth yet) and we moved to blueberries cut in half and then chicken that was shredded. Now we also do bagels and pasta in little pieces. We tried whole bananas and avacados in pieces he could hold but he got frustrated because they were too slimy and couldn't get a good grip on them. We will try those again next week

We have done a mixture of puree and baby led weaning so my lo has gotten finger foods from the beginning. Make sure what you give then is soft enough. Steamed peach slices, my lo favorite is avocado, but he eats everything now we just did spaghetti with meatballs. And just remember that gagging is normal until they learn to chew it up. When ever my lo gags I just say make sure you chew it up!

My son was started on puree food and then my grandfather gave him rice kripsies which opened the door for me because he would swish then around and gum them up. I started giving him puffs, and then strips of banana, avacado, bread and cucumber.

I've heard If you make you boil veggies instead of mashing them finely make them chunkier and chunkier each time too.

Choking is a legitimate concern, I'm not too scared to say my son has choked once from a piece of strawberry that was too big. Just make sure everything is cut small enough. Babies gums are rock hard and can mush anything soft. Also, small portions at a time. My son has been eating finger foods for months and still will try ro shove everything in his mouth at once.

Not to be mean or anything just give her some and watch her closely my baby has been eating finger foods since 6 months. He eats anything now haha has to be soft tho

For my little girl I always try to find soft foods and cut them up as little as I can so there almost no way she could choke on them. Soft rice, little pieces of chicken cut up really tiny seems to be a winner in my house haha

Rice is a great beginner baby food. They can pick it up and feed themselves, small enough that they can't choke on it. We also did refried beans when we were first starting out. I just cut stuff down smaller than pea sized if it's something I'm not sure she can eat without choking. So for example meats or fruits like grapes that have a skin that is hard to chew up I will cut up to slightly smaller than pea sized. Stuff like banana or avocado are so mushable that I can leave those bigger and baby mushed them when she grabs them.

The teething wafers were a great starter for my son. I first held it for him so that he could just taste it & know it was food. Then I just set them on the high chair for him to play with. They're big and easy to hold & they dissolve so there's little choking hazard. Once he started eating those well, I moved to the cheeto looking puffs. & I've started giving him little chunks of banana & mango, too.

How do I introduce finger foods??
