Copper iud?

Question

I am currently not on bc I recently stopped taking my birth control pills because I am just tired of having to take them every day. About a year ago I had the implant and had heavy bleeding for like 5 months and had it removed. I am thinking I want to get a copper iud because it is not hormoral. I am only 16 can I still get it?

I would really recommend a normal IUD over the copper one. Yes it's still hormones but the copper IUD has a higher rate of bad side affects.

If you're tired of the daily pill routine, get an iud--copper OR hormonal. Unlike the implant, the hormones from the hormonal iud remain localized in your uterus, so there's less of a full-body effect. The cooper iud is slightly larger, which might deter you given your age, but if you want to avoid hormones, I don't see why you couldn't try it. You can always have it removed if you don't like it.
