My 3 year old son doesn't like his hair... what to do?

As the title says. 
My son is a bit shy. But not in a extreme way. And with his age, he is even more self concious. He becomes more aware of typical gender things. And boys like superheros, blue, cars and "they have short hair". He has beautiful kinky curls, everyone loves it. I want to cry even thinking about cutting his hair. What to do? I dont want him to feel insecure with his current hairdo. Any moms or dads with similar experiences? How have you dealt with the situation?

If he has expressed to you that he doesn't like it, cut it for him. Why make him uncomfortable because you think his curls are so cute? And they probably are. But his comfort is more important.

If it bothers HIM and makes him feel insecure, definitely cut it. Your opinion about his curls being so cute shouldn't matter if it makes him have negative feelings towards himself. 
That was the one thing I hated about my whole childhood is that my parents refused to let me cut my hair (which made me literally hate myself over time) because THEY thought it was "too beautiful to cut" while it was extremely long and straight.

My son never had insecurities about himself, but wanted short hair like his daddy. I loved his little blonde curls, but ultimately it's what he wanted with his body/hair. It was difficult to give in to the request, but it made him happy and that's all that matters. He's still perfect and adorable no matter the length of his hair.

It's just hair,  you cut it so you're child feels better about themselves. Easy peasy.

Thanks for your comments! It made me get out of my sad-me-chair. Of course the most important thing is that he feels good. And of course he still will be cute and beautiful. Maybe i hope for him to accept himself just the way he is, with kinky hair. But i cannot force him to love his hair in the way i like him to. Good point to respect his wishes about his body, this is the first time to really experience that he can make choices about his own body and hair and how it might affect him (in a good way). If he doesn't learn this from us.. Well, who will teach him to respect his needs?

My son had curly gorgeous locks to his elbows until he was 7 . He's now 9 . He plays baseball all year two levels up and he would man bun it , braid it , you name it he didn't care .... Until he turned 7 years old . He was ready to make a change ( we decided he would donate . ) He didn't have specific reasons . I asked if he anyone was saying anything and he said " wouldn't matter in comfortable with my sexuality " 🤷🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️. Everyone loved it , but I do believe he was becoming conscious of it and somewhat bored . Sports was every night and it was becoming a handful to manage . Sooo I explained - once we cut it - it takes a while to grow back but it's your hair . It's not a detrimental situation . You need to feel good in your skin . So we donated 27 inches of his hair and we haven't gone back in a year . I know my son is older but I've been there and from the day he was born until he was 7 all we knew were those long locks . He went to school and his games and literally nobody knew who he was - not even his coach . 
I enclosed a picture from when he was 5 or six , now and last year . It's just hair - is my only advice . It grows back . When he eats older he might want it back and that's ok - he might not - and that's ok too  .
