What is the difference between Braxton hicks and real contractions?l

What do each feel like?? I'm 40+2 weeks and I'm dying for my contractions to be real. So far I've had two experiences with them I think. One is where my whole belly just gets hard. This happens often. For like a few weeks now. I didn't even know these were considered contractions. And then I've had like cramping pains about a week ago that came and went. Are they both contractions?

Also you can tell the difference by timing them if you get confused. Because active labor you'll feel every 5 mins or less apart repeatedly for hours. Not just go away like BH

following. I am curious too, I have been having some tightening of my stomach and some period like cramps but my sis in law said they weren't bh unless my stomach kind if came to a point. Anyone else experience it that way?

Basically same thing . The BH is light cramps version of REAL contractions. Contractions is hard and rough cramps that will be in lower back and lower stomach that may or may not come with pressure. Contractions will stop you where you stand just to get thru just one. Which meaning you are your cervix is preparing it self of opening. Hope this help!! 😊
