Iud string question

I got my iud inserted yesterday and yay me I also got my period. I totally forgot to ask my dr how much of the strings I should feel. She also said she left them a little long but can trim them if need be. I finally had a chance to check them out today and I could feel them but not the actual iud. I'm sure it's in place but I was wondering how long the strings are supposed to be? Could they feel longer cuz I'm on my period? I'm calling the dr tomorrow to make sure everything is ok and to schedule a trim lol they seem a little on the long side to me.
