Potential nail tragedy

If I were in a suspense movie, this would be the plot. Do you see that tiny spot under my nail, really close to my finger tip, that's darker than the rest of the underside of my nail? That is an itty-bitty split. The beginning of a tear. The makings of a nightmare! My nail could break at that spot at any moment. One wrong move while handling fabric and SNAG! Gone. I have to figure out the best way to repair that split before it causes IRREPARABLE DAMAGE!
