T1D 35 weeks 6 days induction/labor q's

Laura

Hi ladies!

I joined glow in my first trimester but only discovered this T1D group tonight!

I would be grateful to hear any/all experiences of T1D mom's induction and labor and postpartum experiences.

My main questions:

1. Did you get induced at 37w, 38w or other?

2. Did Pitocin work? Or did you end up needing a c-section?

3. Were your blood sugars ok during labor or scary lows/highs?

4. Did your insulin dramatically decrease as soon as your baby was born?

5. Did you get to have skintoskin or did they rush baby off to NICU to monitor for babies low blood sugars?

Thanks!

Laura

i was scheduled to be induced but my water broke on its at exactly 37 weeks i did end up having to have pitocin because i was not progressing the way they wanted i was in labor for 17 hours ..... i dont remember my blood sugars honestly i dont think the staff was either because i hadnt eaten or anything however my blood pressure shot up out of nowhere i think because i was anxious ..... if they did check my sugar it was witbin normal range.... after my daughter was born (vaginally) my blood sugars were running low i had passed out several times and had a couplw seizures... took a while for them to get back to normal and once my baby was born we were able to do slin to skin however they did check her sugar before and after she ate and as long as the 4th time they did it she was within normal range we shouldnt have to worry

went into labor so I had it ready. and still had to knock it down. I wouldn't worry about drinking juice tho. they can give you fluids witb sugar in them if you drop

make sure to talk to your endo and be prepared to knock your insulin straight back to prepregnancy settings. I had my endo give me the settings before we

I have 2 little ones. I went into labor at 36 weeks with my first, 7lbs 10 oz had skin to skin right away. he was jaundice and I wanted to nurse but he wouldn't latch and we had to supplement due to a little low but no nicu. eventually we figured it out and everything was fine. blood sugar was fine in labor. after had a lot of lows and had to keep decreasing. 2nd baby was induced at 37w4d due to preeclampsia. I responded well to everything. started pitocin at 5am had him at 1146. 9lbs 6oz. he did get stuck being so big but wound up delivering ok. no nursing issues or blood sugar issues with this one. he was also jaundice and worse then the first so we were in the hospital for 5 days. now pregnant with baby number 3. there is no reason you HAVE to have a c section just because you are diabetic. we do tend to have bigger babies but you'd be amazed what your. body can do
