Past due, induced and emergency C-section

Marissa

I'm 5 weeks PP and finally able to share my birth story. I had my daughter 6.7.17. I was 41 weeks exactly when my doctor said I was still not dilated and only 50% effaced. I had tried everyyyything to get things going for a few weeks. Sex, yoga ball, walking 2 miles every other day, primrose oil capsules and raspberry leaf tea. I was having contractions off and on for over a week but no progress. I was scheduled the day after my appointment to be induced. I was started at 9am on cytotec to get me dilating. It was working so well and I was still contracting regularly so I didn't need pitocin. Contractions were manageable for hours. I walked the halls multiple times to get things going. At 10pm I was 5cm and hit with a wave of contractions that were completely unbearable. (My original birth plan was to go all natural, uhh yeah wasn't happening) My babies heart rate started to increase and I was white knuckling it on the bed. The doctor came in and suggested an epidural to help slow the contractions down. They were hitting 1 minute apart and 1 minute long so not many breaks for us. I caved and got the epidural, but was only numbed on the left side. (That was interesting) luckily after about an hour my right side pain was dulled so it made the pain bearable again. I slept and before I knew it it was 6:30am. I was checked and 8cm dilated so the doctor broke my water. He said baby was still not engaged and at a -2 station. He gave her half an hour to descend and before I knew it he said we needed to get her out before putting her through more stress. He also said because they suspected her to be almost 9lbs she could just not be fitting and if we forced it it could cause me to tear from V to B and be hard on her. Within 5 minutes of him saying the words C-section I was signing papers and I was on a table in surgery. I had a complete anxiety attack, since I wasn't prepared mentally for what was happening. I vomited during the entire surgery which wasn't fun. (Kind of ironic since I had hyperemesis half my pregnancy, I laugh that she had me vomiting until the very end) The minute I saw her was the best moment of my life and I realized that even though my birth plan went to shit and the complete opposite of what I wanted. Having her here healthy was all that mattered. It was a crazy ride! My husband was my rock the entire time. Seeing them together makes it all worth it. My advice for others is have a plan, but if it all falls apart just breath and know you'll meet your mini one way or another and it will be the most amazing thing you've done. All of us are badass no matter how we bring our babies into the world.
