birth control effectiveness?

i'm on the pill, my brand is Yaz. I can't talk to my doctor about this because she only tells me not to have sex until i'm married. but has anyone been on the brand? how effective was it at preventing pregnancy? i've been considering becoming sexually active with my boyfriend and wanted to make sure that i'm safe first.

I thought Yaz was on recall? (I don't take bc so I'm not sure) but I remember a while back I saw tons of infomercials on Yaz, Yazmin, and some other brand that could be life threatening.

I am a pharmacy technician, Yaz was on recall because of the fact that it would cause blood clots. They changed the formulary of the drug and brought it back out again.  Yaz was my first birth control as well! And it actually was the last pill I was on before I became pregnant. (I am due in 8 days lol) but any birth control needs at least 7 days before you can have unprotected sex. It doesn't protect you from STDs and it's only 99% effective.... I would use back up just incase! At least a full month before it's more effective.
