Why does getting my cervix checked

Hurt so badly?! I haven't had sex my entire pregnancy so I'm guessing that's why it hurts so much to get checked. It's scaring me to think how awful labor is going to be with me being so tense down there.

Are you dialated yet? I was first checked at 37 weeks and was totally closed and anterior . Thought I was going to die and hurt all day from it. Was checked last week at 38+4, 1cm dialated, soft, and posterior. Still wasn't comfortable but a lot easier than the first time.

as your cervix softens and dilates and moves forward, it gets easier. but when it's at 0-1 and it's not effaced, it's super hard and way up at the top and it's just miserable

Got mine checked today and it's still up high so it was pretty painful. It felt like she had shoved her whole hand up there.

They just use their hand. Some doctors are nicer than others with it. My doctor it never hurts, i went to labor and delivery and that hurt significantly more haha

It was so uncomfortable and painful when I was checked the first few times 1-2cm they next time they checked me at 7cm it was a lot less painful. Although it may have been less painful because I'm not sure anything could compare to the back contractions.

I'm in the same boat as you, sex has been terribly uncomfortable and so we only gave it a go once. I'm 30 weeks and now I'm horrified what delivering will be like if that's how sex felt o_o. What instrument do they use to check the cervix? Is it similar to a pelvic check in the first trimester?
