Question about lactose intolerant

Hey everyone! So my boyfriend just got to start seeing his daughter again and the mom said she is lactose intolerant but won't answer us when we ask her what exactly she drinks. We feel like tricked and confused on if she's trying to make us have a hard time with her or what. She is 18 months old so I just got her soy formula from Walmart. She likes it and has been fine. I was thinking about giving her almond milk instead, though. What does everyone think????
