Child modeling? Update.
So I live in Iceland where everyone is white (blonde hair, blue eyes). There is not a lot of diversity. My daughter is 1/2 Jamaican and 1/2 Icelandic, she is almost 7. We get approached daily with comments that she should do some modeling. Modeling agencies have reached out to me about putting her in commercials and tv shows.
On one hand I feel like they would be exploiting her and me aiding in it. And I also don't want her to think that beauty is everything.
On the other hand I think she could also be a positive image to other mixed children here. They would see her and say "hey, she looks like me!" And I could also put her earnings away for when she is older.
I'm just really on the fence. What do you think?
Update: Hi everyone thanks for all the lovely comments. I spoke to my daughter about it and we decided to give it a try. She will be in an episode of the Netflix show - Black Mirror coming in the fall. It was a grueling shoot, she was tired and I was also. I don't think I will let her do a show again, we were on set for about 6 hours! In the end she said she had fun. But personally I didn't expect it to take that long. So next time I'll let her only trying commercials or pictures.
Thanks so much and I will definitely stick by her side like glue, imma be that mamager u see on tv hovering over everything 😂😂.
