Bible camp?

Thoughts on bible camps? I'm Jewish and have never went to one but watched a documentary on Netflix called Jesus camp and damn that's too intense for kids.

Not all bible camps are like the one in Jesus Camp. The reason that documentary was focused on that camp is because it's so outrageous and out of the ordinary. Don't judge them all to be like that. 
I never went. But my girlfriend in high school went to bible camps almost every summer of her childhood and teen years - her parents were super Christian but she herself did not believe in god and she still talks about those camps very fondly. She loved them.

I watched Jesus Camp. I grew up in the right winged Evangelical churches. Most youth groups and camps were like this. It's super culty. Most of the parents compulsed to raise kids in these churches need meds and a therapist. It's batshit crazy. 💯 spiritual and emotional abuse. I don't see Jesus in any of it.

I'm not religious now, but in high school I volunteered at one at the church my family attended. It was a lot more Bible stories, art projects, and games and a lot less freaky indoctrination and brain washing. Jesus camp is real, but it's also very over the top compared to what the average Bible camp experience is probably like.

My experience is those kinds of documentaries pick the most over the top places. I've never been to Bible camp myself, but all three of my brothers have been multiple times. The religious aspect was only a part of the camp. They had a a couple hours every day where there was religious activity, they said grace before meals and there were prayers before bed. But the rest of the time they were doing all sorts of fun things like hiking, swimming, canoeing, team sports, there were zip lines and all these water bouncy castles, etc. It was an amazing camp and they absolutely loved it and went back multiple years in a row. And my brothers were never a huge fan of Sunday school or church at that age either. So Bible camp isn't always super intense.

Not all are like that. I went to a Lutheran camp as a kid and we had normal camp activities usually. We sang songs and learned about god but nothing to the extent in that movie. I had an amazing time there as a kid. I am no longer religious but not all bible camps are that insane.

Omg! I love bible camp. I've never seen that documentary but I know it's not like the ones I've been to. Bible camp is for growing in God and having a good time. It really is a great experience.

I don't really think it's appropriate to force a religion on children like that. I mean wouldit really ok to send children to communist camp? Or democrat camp? Or republican camp? Unless a religious camp is completely unbiased and presents critical analysis of religious texts culture etc. it's not really appropriate.

My daughter goes to church camp for one week out of the summer every summer and they just play games and do fun stuff and throw in some bible stuff every once in awhile. It's mainly just for her to have fun

Most of my friends went to vacation bible school growing up, is that the same thing? My family isn't religious, so I never went.
