Milk not coming in - NICU baby
Hey mommies! I just was wondering if anyone else has experienced this same thing. Let me start by saying Ive successfully breastfed my first 2 babies, with my 2nd being a nicu baby. K so here is what's happening now. I had my 3rd baby on mon at 4 am. He was born with platelet and blood cell issues (just like my 2nd baby). Only difference is I noticed the signs instantly and had them take him to nicu right away. I had about 3 min of skin to skin and no chance to have him nurse at all. About 30min to an hour after he was born we did some hand expressions and I got a tiny bit of colostrum. Not a lot but I didn't expect much. With what he has going on, I can't hold him or nurse him at all. Tomorrow there is potential to be able to, but we won't know till then. I've been pumping every 2-3 hours for 15 min. It seems as if even the colostrum I was producing is barely coming out now. I'm super worried that milk isn't going to come in since I'm getting no interaction with baby other than looking at him and touching his hands. With my first 2 I was able to latch them instantly and they nursed continuously without problems. So I'm guessing the fact that I've gotten none of that with my little boy is what is making everything go really slow. I'm just terrified I wont be able to get my milk to come in and I wont be able to nurse. Any other nicu mommas have their milk come in even after not being able to hold or nurse baby? My 2nd was in nicu but he was able to be held so I was there the whole time and would nurse on demand with him. Then we went on to nurse for almost 2 years. If I have to formula feed to make sure he gets food, I will, but I'm willing to do everything it takes to be able to breastfeed. Any tips, tricks or experiences to give this momma a little hope? It's really bringing me down knowing I can't even provide food for him right now. Nicu has asked I bring them anything I do produce but it's literally like Ill see droplets of colostrum form, but that's it. It's nothing more so I can't even collect it. It's only been 36 hours but I'm really discouraged 😞
