binkies? pacifiers?

do you HAVE to give your baby a binky because of their sucking reflex? does it mess with breast feeding? I don't want my baby to RELY on one like a lot of my friends kids do at age 3

I gave my son a pacifier at two days old. Never had an issue nursing. Pacifiers while sleeping supposedly reduce SIDs also. Don't feel guilty giving your child a pacifier. They like to suck, it's soothing.

I'm not giving it to my baby. They don't need it. And yes, it COULD interfere with breastfeeding. Same way bottle feeding can interfere with breastfeeding. It's a different sucking motion for both. If you are going to use one, wait until baby is breastfeeding well.

My daughter is 8 months and has never had one. My oldest was ebf and had one till 16 months and breastfed for 13 months no problem.

My daughter takes them mostly just at night. I have about 4-5 of them in her crib and she finds them herself to self soothe. She's 13 months and actually starting to throw them like she's starting to get over it.id rather take away her binki can't take away her fingers.

You don't have to give them one. It's usually better to wait 3-4 weeks to introduce the pacifier so it doesn't interfere with breastfeeding. Mine used the gumdrop pacifiers and gave them up on their own at 4-6 months or so when they started teething and they switched to a mouth guard style teether.
Pacifiers help kids self soothe, and their use has been linked to a reduced risk of SIDS. Having a kid be dependent on a pacifier or not partially depends on how much the parents depend on the pacifier. We mostly only offered them to sleep or while we were warming a bottle or in the car, so they didn't really have them all the time.
