Swaddling preventing baby from "self soothing" .......???

Question

How is a baby supposed to self soothe if their swaddled?  Is there another way besides sucking their thumb?  (Which is wrapped by said swaddle) 
We still swaddle for most naps,  but he doesn't Like it at bedtime! Idk why,  except the idea that with a swaddle,  they can't self soothe? He sucks his hands often when falling asleep

You know it doesn't hurt to actually soothe your baby once in a while 🤷🏻‍♀️ I find it ridiculous to expect a baby to "self soothe". They were just born they can't "self" do anything 🙄

There are many ways to swaddle a baby. You don't have to wrap baby's arms. Leave one or both arms out of the swaddle. Or, don't swaddle. If your baby doesn't like it, why force it?

Newborns can't self sooth. By the time they're able to you shouldn't be swaddling anymore. But there are different kinds of swaddles that allow freer movement of the arms. Look for the love to dream swaddle up

My kids would turn their heads gently side to side to self soothe, but I could see swaddling be a hinderance for a kid that does want their hand/fingers/thumb.  
For our oldest, the swaddle was a huge sleep association.  He would get swaddled and be out in 5 mins.

My daughter hated being swaddled. Probably explains why she tried to rearrange my organs before I had her. She took a binky and slept like a champ. Still does. Binky is going bye bye once we are done cutting 2 year molars!! Sucking is a soothing reflex for babies. Not every baby likes being swaddled, and not every baby will take a binky. Just gotta try and see what works for you.

Honestly.... babies don't really know how to self soothe or even learn how until they're around 5-6 months old. It's around the time you can start implementing the cry it out method as well. A lot of babies are different too and respond to swaddling differently.
My son was 5 months when he just decided to put himself to sleep. No more swaddling, no more paci, no more bouncing, etc. he just..... didn't. 
I doubt my daughter will be the same way. Because they're just different people.

I don't think a swaddle prevents a baby from self soothing. It helps them to feel like they are in the womb...which in turn helps soothe them. They can still learn to soothe themselves while being swaddled. How old is your baby?
