Doctor have us confused! We need advice!
My boyfriend and I recently found out we were expecting, and we're beyond happy! We took seven home test, I think just to reassure myself it was still positive. This will be my second pregnancy, which sadly the first ended in a miscarriage in 2012. I wasn't sure I'd ever see a positive test. We scheduled an appointment to start my prenatal and do our first ultra sound, if based on my last period I'd be 8-9 weeks. However my periods have not always been regular. We had an appointment set for two week out from our first home test. Two days following when the appointment was made, my boyfriend and I had sex and I noticed a more than expected amount of darker red blood. No pain, and it was only during sex. I then spotted lightly varying in brownish to pinkish color for 2-3 days. Then for two days, even though it was still pinkish in color, I had a few small clots (size of hemp seeds). The next day, (exactly a week since we had sex), I started bleeding heavy, dark blood, with grape size clots. This only lasted for a few hours and by the end of the night and following day, it was back to barely there and Light Pink color. While at the hospital they checked my HCG (3400), did a vaginal and abdominal ultra sound and did a vaginal exam. They didn't say anything was strange about my vaginal exam. They advised me they didn't see anything on the ultra sound at all, which is concerning for my HCG levels and as far along as they assume I am based on my last period. She requested I follow up with my OBGYN two days later at our originally scheduled appointment. They did blood work, and we're still waiting for the results on my HCG levels, and we have an ultrasound scheduled for tomorrow. However the second doctor only two days later advised me the outer part of my cervix was slightly open. She informs me that I probably miscarried when I was bleeding heavy. But wouldn't they have notified me of my cervix at the hospital? I also didn't have any pain or cramping except following my pelvic exams for maybe an hour. (This normally happens following past vaginal exams), so I haven't put much into them. Except being more active today, I did have some mild cramping in the late afternoon, but now I'm worried all this poking and prodding at my lady bits might be making my situation worse.
We've done a lot of looking online, and have noticed that some women who have previously been pregnant, and sometimes hormones can cause this slight opening in my cervix, and bleeding and sometimes cramping isn't a set stone sign of miscarriage. I still have some of my pregnancy symptoms, and besides the cramping directly following my pelvic exams, I've been pain free. We're now scared of doing any further pelvic exams, because we're worried if one doctor saw nothing, and another says something different, we shouldn't have people poking at my cervix for a moment. The last doctor told us we probably had a miscarriage, and they are talking about possible D&C.; I'm hoping my HCG levels are still on the rise, and we're pretty sure I'm falling into the four to five week time-frame. So it's not a sure sign of miscarriage with nothing on the ultra sound since it could just be too early. We need advice bad!! Since we didn't think I could get pregnant, we weren't worried about protection. But we're happy about the surprise non the less, as we both can't wait to be parents, and really want this baby!!
