Is it selfish to have a baby shower and gender reveal?

My sister just found out she's having her second child mid January and is almost already 15 weeks I wanted to through her a baby sprinkle but she said shes having a gender reveal so she thought it would be selfish to have both.

I don't think you really ask for stuff at a gender reveal....  baby showers are more for that...

why not have both like baby gender reveal and baby shower...just send an ivite for gender neutral things

Honestly I don't even know what the point is of doing a gender reveal party lol. I've never been to one, and we waited til our girls were born to find out what they were. So do the moms-to-be get gifts at the reveal too? I just always assumed it was a party thrown by the parents and was just about food and friendship. If that's the case, I don't see an issue with having both, as you're guests aren't expected to bring something to both parties. However, if this for a second child, I think having a second shower is a bit much, depending on the age difference between the kids.

 I am doing both but, I am being specific about not wanting any gifts for the gender reveal party.

you don't receive gifts at a baby reveal last I knew. just a get together to celebrate the baby's sex. as for the shower, a sprinkle would be more appropriate if her first is still pretty young.

I had both,   gender reveal isnt when you expect gifts  and usually a little more intimate than a shower or sprinkle.  and even less selfish if someone throws the shower for you

The reason we are/did both is because at our reveal we didn't have gifts. Just the reveal and some food for the guest.

If someone else plans it and puts on the invitations to buy gifts for either a boy or girl. But be sure not to say anything. 
Also note that the gifts must be rapped in gender neutral paper. And everyone should be dressed in gender neutral colors like yellow, green, red, purple,. No blu color shirts and no pink color shirt. 
It's possible 100% just depends on how u do it
