Birth Control Pill

I just recently stopped getting my Depo injections. I have an idea to be on the pill and use condoms in the future when I have sex, but I am really worried I will have the same bad side effects with the pill as I did with the shot due to them both having a lot of progesterone. Have any of you been in this same situation? What side effects did you get from being on the pill? And should I use condoms and the pill or condoms and a sponge??
