It really isn't a common thing. It was really common several years ago, but now there's more regulations on tampons. You are more likely to get it if you're using super absorbent ones, but even then it's still very unlikely. TSS isn't something I really stress over just due to the statistics

It's not a real threat if you change your tampons around the recommended time and use the right absorbency. 
Men, children, and women who don't even use tampons can get it too.
