Transgender people being banned from the Army
Right, let's get real a second. Let me lay out some hard core facts for the people who have laid out (imo) some pretty weak arguments.
👉🏼"there are around 2,450 transgender personnel in some active position in the US military. Other groups like the Transgender American Veterans Association, American Military Partner Association, and OutServe-SLDN have said that the figure is higher at 15,500 transgender personnel in the military." (Source: The independent)
Therefore the people saying "we need a strong army", well you already have the strongest army in which transgender people have been a part of that for a while now.
👉🏼The average age for a transgender person (if at all) to undergo surgery is 42. (Source: govt.org) Also from what I can gather this would not be paid for on the medical aid (I am not American therefore I apologise if I get this bit wrong)
Therefore the people saying that "it will cost money" is wrong or "it will cause time off and physical changes" the same could be said for a woman who decides to have a baby.
👉🏼Just because someone isn't in the military or isn't related to someone in the military does not mean they cannot have an opinion.
Ya we can all read and we can all understand different circumstances.
👉🏼Those who agree with this are transphobic, whether you are intentionally being transphobic or not it is still transphobic.
👉🏼 Using "but they (transgender people) will get offended if someone doesnt use the right pronoun" and "it will cause drama"
No. I'm sorry but what a lame ass excuse. What causes drama (like on the last post) is transphobia. Most (imo and through experiences) transgender people do not get highly offended over an accidental slip and not using the right pronoun. As a user pointed out, if it's done intentionally then there is a problem.
👉🏼"but they will have to take a class 😢"
boo freaking who, (george ma gal said this), if they have to take a class on how to interact with a human being then they shouldn't be there.
There has been nothing on the internet, in the press, on the radio about difficulty in the army due to transgender people. This has only arisen since Trumps tweets.
Anyone who cannot see that banning transgender people from fighting for their country is transphobic, discriminatory and plain crazy cannot be helped. Making life easier for transphobic people does not help the wider issue.
As my last point I will propose this to you all, if there are racists in the army would you remove all POC from the army?
EDIT:
👉🏼"Now any soldier whose ability to serve is 'adversely affected by a medical condition or medical treatment related to their gender identity,' they will be eligible for reassignment surgery or hormone therapy, according to the Defense Department. Children of soldiers and retirees will also be able to take advantage of the new transgender health benefits such as hormone therapy. However, only active service members will be eligible for gender-reassignment surgery which can cost anywhere between $7,000 and $50,000 per operation" (Source: Daily Mail and others backing it up)
So not all transgender people will be eligible and not all transgender people will want surgery or undergo hormone treatments.
