Period on mini pill question

So I've been on the pill (yaz) for about 5 months now. I am a little confused. Instead of getting my period during the time of the placebo pills I get it right in the middle of the pill cycle. Am I supposed to stop taking the actual pill at this time and just "take" the placebo pill or continue to take the actual bc pill? Up to this point I've just continued to take the actual pill and skip the placebo pills because I got my period. But I'm pretty sure that's what "skipping your period" is, as my periods have gotten lighter. I'm just very confused and I've tried contacting my doctor but her office is very busy so I thought I'd ask here. Thanks ❤️
