I think people just get excited and forget to think about the possibilities. I think it's truly harmless but can see how it would sting if you're struggling.

My father in law asks every time he sees us.   I don't think it's inappropriate but it hurts kinda.   So I def think more now when i consider asking someone when thy want children.    Bc it hurts to answer for some

my in laws did that and after multiple times my husband told them to stop asking or they wouldn't know until we gave birth. it worked. they stopped bugging us about it.

My MIL used to drive me crazy with this! At Christmas she even asked me when I had my last period in front of the entire family. I told her it was none of her business and the rest of the family started giving her a hard time about being so invasive. Thankfully she never asked again
