What southern state should I move to from Chicago?

My boyfriend, best friend, and I are moving down south next summer and are having a hard time even deciding on a state! I'm going to school to be a high school teacher and I don't know how schools are in any of the states.

My husband is from Tennessee and it's nice. Franklin, Knoxville, Nashville, Clarksville. Those are some of the great main cities! I would just start researching all the states. Good luck!

DO NOT MOVE TO THE SOUTH TO BECOME A TEACHER! My mom was a teacher for 20 years before we moved to North Carolina . #1 There are no unions so they treat teachers like absolute crap. #2 During the summers schools treat teachers like slaves. They expect them to come in and work without getting paid. #3 You get paid very very little. You'll probably end up working 2-3 other jobs. You could seriously work at chilis as a waitress and make more.

I believe teacher unions are the lowest in SC around 2%. You should research a teachers salary in each location and stick to cities since they pay better. A friend of mine has his Master's degree abd started off making 33k a year with 76k in student loans. He said the loan forgiven programs in TN are a joke and no one actually recieves them. TN is also looking to implement a teacher's pay based on the grades of the student's as a way of passing kids through, to boost national graduation rates to increase federal funding. (I know shady af). KY is not much better unless you're in Louisville where the school board there values teachers from what I've heard. Lot's of rural schools have to excuse students to work on family farms making it harder to keep the kids proficient. There is a $5k per person medical deductible on teacher's insurance here if that tells you anything about the benefits.

I'm from NC. I kinda like it. Depends on which city though. DO NOT GO TO SOUTH CAROLINA. I absolutely hated it and a lot of people I spoke to that have been there hated it too.

Georgia is so hot and humid don't do it.I can't even go out of the house for a couple of minutes unless I want to be dripping with sweat.Unless you like that...then knock yourself out.

South Carolina or Georgia would probably be the better two for teacher pay or job opportunity but location wise North Carolina is a beautiful state and has such a wide variety of people, culture and environments. I myself was born and raised there and live in the foothills of the mountains (Morganton) but you could choose anywhere from the beach to the mountains and any elevation between that to live. And contrary to popular belief we're actually very accepting and diverse ❤️✌🏻

Well because you are so used to the north I'd recommend moving to the north south like Virginia or West Virginia or Kentucky just like around that area because near the appellation mountains it's much less humid but near Richmond (capitol of VA) it's SOO much more humid and hot
