One artist I know has been copied so much that forever 21 copied it and sold it on shirts, profiting off her custom piece with no regard to her at all. Fuck trace masters.

Honestly I wouldn't want a tattoo that I know there's a copy of somewhere. Tattoos are expensive and I would want something unique for that kind of money and pain

I would bring it in to your artist and have them do their own spin on it so it's unique

Please don't copy.  Any decent tattoo artist can look at what images you like and come up with your own individual, unique tattoo.  The tattoo artists usually prefer that and the original artist would probably appreciate it too.

If it's super duper popular and many people have it then I feel like it's okay but if not, just bring the picture as a reference and have the tattoo artist draw one that is unique and special just for you!

It's really frustrating as a tattoo artist or just an artist in general to see someone stealing your art. If you want a tattoo similar bring it in as a reference but don't copy it. That's just an asshole move 😂

I say yes it's bad because I've always been one to do my own thing. And just think about the person that got the tat originally, do you think they'd want some stranger to have the EXACT SAME tattoo? I try to be unique and considerate of other people's ink. Tweak it to fit you and your personality.

Depends what it is.. if it's a little black ink symbol or word or popular saying then no, but like a quote or decent sized tattoo then yes, I'd say that's kinda lame.. i only have a tiny lil tat that was originally a stick n poke that me and my friend designed together and I had my friend do in memory of my car that ran away when I went to college, and any I get in future will be special and have meaning just like that one.. I mean to each their own, but I personally think meaningless tattoos are pointless and a waste of money..

if it's something super generic than go for it. if it's something unique or with a deep meaning to the person then I'd say change it somehow.
