So today we found out Aria needs a helmet...

Stephanie

My beautiful daughter Aria was born on April 4th, 2017 and is about to be 4 months old! She was very scrunched up in my womb so much that we had to go back to get a second sonogram just to complete all of her measurements. She was curled up and into my left hip almost. This resulted in torticollis (head tilt) which we have been going to therapy for since she was 9 days old. She prefers to look to the left, so her right side the side we are working on strengthening and stretching. Due to the womb position (oh and she was also born sunny side up bc of her position) and torticollis she prefers her left side. So she has developed a flat spot. No matter how much I prop her up, put little pillow thingys (the kind they sell)to hold her neck up in the car seat, or try to get her to lay on her other side...she just won't. I knew this was coming. In my heart I hoped it wouldn't. But I know that she NEEDS this helmet to help reshape her head. Her flattening is moderate and definitely noticible. I felt so guilty and upset. I blamed myself thinking I somehow did this to her. Mayne I didn't do the exercises enough or turn her enough. I don't know. But I know I can't let pride or guilt get in the way of proper skull and brain development. We go for our evaluation/consultation appointment next Tuesday at this cranial tech specialist place. I see that kids have them with cool stickers and personalized paint jobs. They do look pretty cool. I'm an art teacher so I'd like to paint hers. My friend linked me to something called the "Tortle" hat which I want to get in the mean time while we wait on the whole helmet situation. Has anyone ever been in this situation and felt like this? How old was your child and how long were they in the helmet?

That's a picture of Aria and I. I've decided to not let myself feel guilty and get my child what they need. People will stare and judge but oh well. I always thought it was from putting your kid in a swing for too long. But now I know better. it can be caused by other factors and doesn't mean you're a bad mom.

You can see in this Timehop picture how much her torticollis has improved!!! Any thoughts gang?
