Do you think this should be a thing?

I saw this story on my Snapchat this morning. Do you agree with the children being taken away simply because they have a low IQ? If there is no other reason (neglect, abuse, malnutrition, etc.) to imply they can't care for the children, should an IQ test be given to determine parental eligibility?

I feel like there's more to the story as first thing it states was they weren't intelligent enough to SAFELY take care of children. But it's missing what they did that's so unsafe and unintelligent. Story seems off. Losing kids over your IQ. How did CPS know their IQ? I don't even know my IQ. Seems one sided and like it's missing a lot of information.

From what I understand about the limited information, available to the public on this case, a friend living with them (in a 1200 s/f place provided by Ziegler's parents) had called social services to intervene when the Ziegler wasn't picking up on cues with their child. 
   
Other family members raised concerns with the state’s child welfare department. Most of the warnings came from Fabbrini’s 74-year-old father who said: “She doesn’t have the instincts to be a mother.” 
   
Records show family members cited an instance in which Ziegler ‘has been sleeping with the baby on the floor and almost rolled over on him.’ They also complained that he often ‘forgot to feed the dog.’ One non-profit worker recalled having to prompt the parents to tell their son Christopher, 3 (the first child removed), to wash his hands after using the toilet. 
   
Both Fabbrini and Ziegler graduated from high school but neither of them work. 
   
Fabbrini was granted shared custody of twin boys she had with her ex-husband. 
Ziegler worked as a carpet layer, he said, but now receives Social Security benefits for his mental disability. 
   
Their first child was removed due to "limited cognitive abilities" and the parents are staying it is about their IQ levels because they scored well below the lower of average scores. 
   
Then their second child was removed 4 days after birth. 
    
A few things to note, a 1200 s/f home is very small for 3 adults and 3 (then 4) children. This exceeds legal occupancy for that size of a unit in the state of Oregon. 
   
If Ziegler is collecting SS for a mental disability and can't work, should he have custody of his child? 
    
The social services person helping them on the case sounds like a disgruntled ex employee who has an ax to grind with the state. 
    
Personally, I don't know why Fabbrini wouldn't sue the state for full custody of the children, when she was already awarded it once, which leads me to believe there are other factors at play here.

I mean I would say that there has to be other reasons to add to it not just that their IQ isn't amazing. As in there must have been complaints, its strange as well that one child was taken first then later the second child.
I don't know I mean, based off intelligence, no parents shouldnt have their kids taken away but if their intelligence causes neglect then it should be handled as any other neglect case. 
I refuse to believe it is just down to their IQ

Until they do something wrong, their child is rightfully there's. If all is well, there's no reason to take them away. They clearly also have other family helping out, and there's SO many options for making sure a child is well educated and whatnot even when a parent can't provide it directly.

What. The. Hell. If there's no sign of abuse or neglect, and no complaints the state has no right butting in! Just because someone isn't "smart" doesn't mean they're incapable of loving and caring for their children. I belive that unless there's abuse or neglect the best place for children is with the parents. There may be more to the story than has been represented here, but based on the info given its a load of bs.

Thats mean. Id at the least let them have a choice to get someone to live with them 24/7 or get someone to check in. not just take them away.

So their IQs are incredibly low. Clearly not all the details are readily available but with IQs like that there is good reason for concern. I know that everyone likes to say that raising children is easy and takes no intellect but that isn't true. It is incredibly hard to do successfully and takes an absurd amount of patience. A low intellect doesn't exactly bode well for that kind of task.
