Stay at home/working mom?

How is it that you're able to stay at home? I'm planning on enrolling in school soon, but looking for a career option that I am either able to work from home or in office or even both. I'm getting out of the Navy soon, and my husband would like me to stay at home with my stepson. This way we can save on childcare, and he can spend more time with us as well. We're also TTC my first, so I need ideas on how to bring in an income! What do you do for work (if you work)?
