Should an AP student work Saturdays in her senior year to save money for college?

Hi guys, I work everyday all week except for Sundays (Chick-fil-A perks) and I'm going to be a senior in the fall. My stepfather thinks I shouldn't work bc it'll be a heavy load and I'd need to start driving with my permit. But my mom thinks it'll be fine since it'll just be one day a week. And that I'll be able to have some money saved to go to college with. What do you guys think? I'd love to hear from students (highschool and college) who make it work with a job and good grades! 😋

It all depends on you. I was in AP courses, had a part-time job and still took dance classes/participated in my dance team. If it ever feels like too much, you can always dial back your hours but you may as well try if you wanna save money!

I think you can try it, but if it gets to be too much, the job should be the first thing you cut, as your studies and getting into a good school are more important. Think of it this way: would you rather go to your top choice school without much pocket money, or only get into a second rate school, but you'll have lots to spend at the vending machines?

I took almost all AP classes my senior year of high school. I graduated in 2015. I had a baby my entire senior year, which is unrelated to your question partially. If you are a self-motivated individual, I think it would be good to work. One, it looks good on a resume. Two, a cushion to fall back on while in college would be great. Surprise expenses pop up like crazy. Last, not having a gap in your employment history that is large looks better. I struggled to get a job as a sophomore in college because I didn't have a relevant work history because I hadn't worked since I had my son my senior of high school. Those are my only suggestions. If you begin to feel overwhelmed you can always resign from your job, but you can't get a job back as easily. This is only one perspective, though.

It all depends on the workload of your classes and what you can handle. When I started falling asleep in AP Calculus, I had no choice but to quit my job. 😂  I'm sure you'll be able to manage working only one day though, if saving for college is something you really want to do.

I was in all ap classes, was on the swim team and had a full time job... It was fine for me. A little tiring sometimes but with only a part time job, you should be perfectly fine. Just depends how much you can handle.

I worked fridays, saturdays, and Sunday's during my senior year and took 2 AP classes and an extra class after school on wednesdays and scholars bowl on Tuesdays. I ended up getting a 4 and a 3 in my AP classes and raised my gpa a bit. By the time I got into college, I had $600 in my  savings account and I had bought my own car. (I worked the year before too). So then in college I wasn't so worried about money. I only worked 3 days a week during my first year of college so I could focus on school (and intramural sports 🤐).
I say go for it! It'll be good for you to have some money saved up for college incase you won't have time to work a lot. And you could always quit your job if it interferes too much with work.
