How to let my x boyfriend go..

So I dated the love of my life for a year and a half. We ended on good terms and we still talk everyday and one day we do eventually want to get back together but we both need to wait until we mature and graduate college. For right now, I know we cant be together and that he's not right for me at this moment in my life. He still texts me everyday saying he loves me and gets offended when I mention maybe we should not talk anymore for a while. We do want to eventually be friends but shouldn't some time pass ?? Can someone please tell me what to say that sounds sweet and loving while telling him I want to be friends but we need time apart to move on??? I don't know what to say. We both really love each other but just for now I think we need to date other people
